The California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Taskforce (CHART) was established to develop a collaborative, comprehensive, statewide online hospital performance reporting system. The focus of CHART is to report the performance of individual California hospitals in a standard, easy-to-understand format. Sponsored by the federal government, the Hospital Quality Initiative (HQI) program allows hospitals nationally to report information related to care in three categories; heart failure, heart attack, pneumonia, and surgical infection prevention. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits healthcare organizations. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization, established more than 50 years ago that accredits healthcare organizations. The Joint Commission has recently integrated performance measurement data into the accreditation process. Performance measurement in healthcare represents what is done for the patient and how well it is done.
