Our Birthing Suites
Orange Coast Memorial has one of the newest
maternity centers in Orange County. The
center offers a modern, attractive environment
that is quiet and calming. Your entire birthing
experience takes place in a private labor,
delivery and recovery (LDR) suite, complete
with a bathroom and shower. Each suite is
equipped with a state-of-the-art birthing bed
(that allows you to deliver in the position that
makes you most comfortable). Of course your
coach or partner is welcome to stay at all times
and family members can visit.
Much of a patient’s safety and comfort
depends on the quality of the nursing care.
The nurses in our maternity unit have
advanced training to help identify potential
concerns early and respond quickly. The
nurses are also sensitive to the needs of new
mothers and committed to providing a high
level of personal service.
Post-Delivery Extras
All postpartum rooms are private or semi-private with large windows. The maternity nurses provide education and
information on breastfeeding and baby care, as well as help with feedings, diapering and other needs during your stay.
If mom needs extra rest, the nursing staff is available for care of the baby postpartum. The Birth Center also offers a
personally-tailored education class for new mothers on caring for your baby after you leave the hospital.
Mother-Baby Couplet Care
To enhance bonding, we practice mother-baby couplet care. The new mother and infant remain together and are cared for
as a unit by a single nurse. Studies show that infants in their mother’s presence cry less and have lower blood pressure and
more stable temperature, pulse and respirations. Caring for mother and infant together promotes coordination and continuity
of care, improves communication between family and caregivers, and enhances maternal learning and confidence.
