Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a battery-operated, portable device that can be attached to your belt. The device connects to a cuff that is placed around your arm under your clothes. The ABPM device allows blood pressure to be monitored by taking automatic blood pressure measurements at precise intervals during a 24 to 48 hour time period. ABPM may be performed if you have borderline high blood pressure (borderline hypertension) or have blood pressure that is hard to control. ABPM can help determine effects of medications on blood pressure, and determine your risk for cardiovascular disease.
