MemorialCare Medical Centers Named 2004 Most Wired Hospitals
to be recognized for outstanding technology for five consecutive years MemorialCare Medical Centers have been named one of the nation’s 100 Most Wired Hospitals, according to the results of the 2004 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study. MemorialCare Medical Centers are the only Los Angeles and Orange County hospitals to be honored five consecutive years as Most Wired, a distinction given only to those hospitals demonstrating outstanding use of technology. “We are extremely proud that MemorialCare consistently achieves national honors for innovation and technology,” says MemorialCare President and CEO Barry Arbuckle, PhD. “By focusing on the nation’s best practices in medicine, we have demonstrated an ability to effectively use leading edge technology for the benefit of our patients.” Hospitals & Health Networks conducted the survey in cooperation with IDX Systems Corporation and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). The Most Wired survey measures the nation’s hospitals on their use of Internet technologies for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues. “Health care technology continues to be a critical component of our health care delivery system,” says Mark Wheeler, M.D., chief technical architect, IDX Systems Corporation. “The 100 Most Wired hospitals not only demonstrate what is possible today, but also are proof of concept for the President's health information technology plan and the national health information infrastructure.” MemorialCare physicians and staff members have introduced many key technologies, such as radiology systems and picture archiving communications systems (PACS). Additionally, the organization has begun the transition to a leading-edge clinical information system that will revolutionize communication among physicians, staff members and patients. MemorialCare Medical Centers include Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach, Orange Coast Memorial in Fountain Valley and Saddleback Memorial in Laguna Hills. |
