Why I Love Working at MemorialCare
“As histology tech supervisor, I oversee a staff that prepares and processes tissue specimens collected from patients in surgery for microscopic examination by pathologists. The work is exacting and the schedule for processing tissue samples is demanding, but I enjoy the satisfaction of seeing all the pieces come together at the end of the day. Because the field of histology has advanced so quickly over the past few years, there are many more procedures than when I began my career 31 years ago. I love working at Orange Coast Memorial because it’s a well-oiled machine with high standards and a lot of caring, concerned employees. I’m also asked for my opinion and made to feel like a very valuable person. Because the hospital wants employees to feel included, it helps everyone do a better job.”

Histology Technologist Supervisor at Orange Coast Memorial
“As the coordinator and patient advocate for the Orange Coast Memorial Blood-Conservation Program, my role is to oversee services for all patients who wish to avoid blood transfusions due to religious convictions or personal preference. From the moment blood-conservation patients are admitted until the time they’re discharged, the entire hospital works as a team to provide the highest quality care possible, while ensuring that blood-conservation protocols and guidelines are followed. When I began working in this field 23 years ago with one of its pioneers, it was very difficult for patients to obtain surgical or medical services without agreeing to the use of donor blood. Today, blood-conservation practices are becoming the standard of care—and at Orange Coast, the level of commitment is remarkable. Our hospital is small enough to be personal, but big in getting the job done.”
