Paramedic Base Station
As paramedic base station hospitals, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children’s Hospital handles approximately 1,000 paramedic calls per month. Paramedics base hospitals play an important role in the assessment and treatment of patients before they arrive in the emergency department, with physicians and nurses communicating with paramedics via radio.
Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s are staffed with mobile intensive care nurses and emergency physicians 24 hours per day, seven days a week and provide continuing education and quality improvement programs for all paramedic units that are assigned to them. As one of the few hospitals in Los Angeles County with both adult and children’s hospitals, our Emergency Department is in a unique position to assist paramedics in treating patients of all ages.
Last year, Long Beach Memorial/Miller Children’s handled more than 12,000 calls through five paramedic units assigned to the base.
